Antigua

ANTIGUA

Just back from my fourth visit to ANTIGUA and
I am ready to say that your vacation there is a
function of the hotel you choose. The island is
fairly small, at 108 square miles, with friendly
people, interesting terrain, and at least one
important attraction.

The only \"must see\" is English Harbour on the
South coast. Here, you walk on the same stones
that British Navy men walked on during colonial
days. And the lookout that the Navy established
at Shirley Heights now hosts a barbeque dance
party every Sunday night. Other activities
include a zip line through the rain forest, the
Black Dragon booze cruise, boating and snorkeling
excursions and 365 beaches surrounding the
island.

There is something very attractive about \"new\"
hotels that beats out multiple renovations of
older properties. ANTIGUA has a number of new
resort properties including several deluxe rated
hotels.

CARLISLE BAY, on the south coast, is a modern
deluxe resort of 82 contemporary suites, an
elaborate tennis facility, a great spa, a yoga
and Pilates pavilion and a luxurious screening
room where guests of all ages can view movies
in air-conditioned comfort. HERMITAGE BAY, on
the west coast, has a private island feel to it,
with only eight Beach Cottages and 17 Hillside
Cottages with plunge pools. The cottages at this
all-inclusive resort are something special, with
AC, plasma TVs, outdoor showers, an ipod dock and
a fridge and coffee maker. Also new and deluxe
is the Mediterranean Village at SANDALS ANTIGUA.
Rooms at this half of the large all-inclusive
SANDALS RESORT on Dickinson Bay range from large
well furnished rooms to suites with private pools
and butlers! Also a pleasure to see are the 28
new Beachfront Rooms at the traditional INN AT
ENGLISH HARBOUR. We had a delicious gourmet
dinner at the well regarded Terrace Restaurant here.

Deluxe rated CURTAIN BLUFF built a fabulous new
spa to accompany its all-inclusive program of
world class tennis, scuba diving and deep sea
fishing, hors d\'oeuvres before dinner, and
selections from what must be the largest and
finest wine cellar in the Caribbean. JUMBY BAY,
on a island off Antigua, is scheduled to reopen
after renovations in November 2009.

BLUE WATERS ANTIGUA, on the northwest coast,
is a pleasant, refined resort offering a Breakfast
only plan and an all-inclusive (meals and drinks)
plan. Highlights here include every room being
waterfront, three pools, good watersports equipment
and the superb restaurant called The Cove.
ST. JAMES\"S CLUB, on the southeastern coast, is a large
resort of 250 rooms, suites and villas. Great for
families and couples, the 100-acre peninsula has
beaches on both sides, numerous tennis courts, and
a good variety of restaurants included on the all-
inclusive plan. GALLEY BAY RESORT for adults is on the
West coast near Antigua\'s capital, St. Johns. Accommoda-
tions at this all-inclusive resort are in nice beachfront units
or garden or lagoon view Gauguin Cottages with plunge
pools.

Other recommended places to stay include the
moderate all-inclusive JOLLY BEACH RESORT, the new
COCO BAY cottage resort, the new VERANDAH RESORT
& SPA, the moderate HAWKSBILL BEACH RESORT and the
all-inclusive GRAND PINEAPPLE BEACH.

Several of the major hotels in ANTIGUA are offering up to
50% off the Summer/Fall rates right now. Please call us at
800-962-2080 for more information. Or, if you book
