Adelaide
The capitol of South Australia, Adelaide is a square mile surrounded by a swath of parks. The temperate climate makes it ideal for lingering in sidewalk cafes or enjoying picnics in the parks. A major cultural center, Adelaide has fine music and drama, and what many call the best museum in Australia. The Tandanya Aboriginal center is very worthwhile, and a good place to shop for Aboriginal art.
Adelaide is the gateway to Kangaroo Island, the 500 million-year-old Flinders Ranges, the Barossa, Clare and Coonawara wine valleys, cruising on the Murray River, and the outback deserts along the Oodnadatta Track.
