The island-state of Tasmania is a study in contrasts: sheep farms, little villages offering Devon tea, Hobart and it interesting crafts, the old prison ruins of Port Authur -- and the Tasmanian Devil! But immense parts of Tasmania are wilderness and national parks. The large ones most visited by adventure-seekers are the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, and Cradle Mountain. The Freycinet Peninsula, northeast of Hobart, has beautiful bush walks, stunning turquoise waters, and some lovely lodge accommodation.
