What interesting towns or cities within Spain are often overlooked, but should not be missed?
"A 15th Century town called Morello - just north of Alicante on the east coast. This town has an enormous amount of history, the city is completely walled, the hotel Cardenal Ram overlooks the valley region around city - and prices are very reasonable. You will need to go into a small market or wine store and attempt to purchase some Alicante wine. This is a regional wine that is about 265 pesetas (maybe $1.60 USD), and has exceptional body in both the red and white."
There is so much to do in Madrid, but if you only had one day, what would you do?
"I would Make sure that I had a one-night stay at the parador in Madrid, go to the Plaza Mayor to do some shopping, get tickets to a flamenco restaurant/bar, and have dinner and Sangria.
Also, under one of the Plaza's, there is a theatre behind a waterfall, where they normally have regional theatre. Ticket/entrance is very inexpensive. If time is allowed, I would also pick one or two rooms of the Prado and go back to certain exhibits - like El Greco or Valesquez. Also, take a half-day tour with an English speaking guide in a private car, they can find all the current events or festivities for the time of year"
If a client wanted to travel to the Spanish Riviera what advice might you give to ensure a positive and successful trip?
"Possibly rent a villa/home overlooking the Mediterranean with your own private pool. I have many contacts with various agencies where we can arrange rentals with a maid, cook or butlers. Also include a rental car and do day trips from this area"
What kinds of things would you bring or remember to do before heading on a trip to Spain?
"Obtain an International Driver's License. Pack a suitcase within a suitcase to be able to purchase loads of Spanish pottery, which can be very inexpensively obtained in many villages and regions of Spain."
Any other useful information that you think potential travelers to Spain would really like to know?
"Know where to get dinner and experience regional foods of the area a client is visiting. Also, depending on the length of time they plan to spend in Spain, they may like to do an immersion course in Spanish in various regions of Alicante, Madrid or Barcelona. Home-stay or apartment programs are also available with these courses/language classes. You would have both class-room and tour opportunities during your designated time of learning"
